There are many personal trainers all over the world, so we'll stick to new york city. Even in new york, there are hundreds of options as to who you can select as your personal trainer. The beauty of there being so many trainers means the different personalities, services, and methods of fitness. You have trainers that focus on weight loss, muscle building, sports performance, mobility, and the list goes on.
When it comes to my training business Obsession Fitness Personal Training, I have methods and tools that I incorporate to ensure that my clients are successful. I focus on muscle building, which plays into weight loss, and I take every client's goal seriously because I know they are spending their hard-earn money on me, and I know the feeling of wanting results. The two biggest reasons are because my business depends on it, and also, I know that they trust me. Trust is very critical, and that's something that's worked during the process of starting a new client.
Typically I start them on the treadmill to see what fitness level they are on. I pay attention to how fast they get tired and their foot pattern while jogging. I even look at if they can run because if they can't, then that's something that we have to improve. After the treadmill, I begin my functional training to see what they can handle. Some of the exercises I do are :
These exercises give me the breakdown, and if they can't be performed, then that means we have to focus on those factors before anything else. Something that I work on quickly is their form. I can't stress that enough because my most significant concern even before reaching goals is safety. I showed them how their back, chest, stomach, arms, and feet should be when performing specific exercises.
Once I complete the assessment, I sit with them again to speak about anything that could be on their minds. I do this at the beginning and end of the first session because I never want them to leave with questions. Once they sign up and become a client, we proceed forward.
I explain to them how I plan on helping them reach their goals and what I need them to do. which includes
When I am having this conversation with a new client, I want them to understand that we both have to give a high amount of value to this for it to work. Once we are on the same page, everything else flows, and it's a great relationship from there. I find that the clients I have the best chemistry and connection with are the ones who look the best.
During the conversation, I also inform them that I won't be easy on them, and there is no room for excuses. If they know that they have work early in the morning and need time to cook that they should wake up earlier and cook, there should never be an excuse that they didn't have time. When I hear that I really hear "I'm lazy" or "This isn't important to me." Over time I work on them mentally to push past all the barriers.
Within 2-3 months, you should see significant changes in how you feel and look. You will have more energy, be more confident because you look better and have seen the improvements in your performance. My clients are bound to get stronger because of the weight I have them lift. Their workout intensity increases because of the tension and volume I gave them during our sessions. My goal is for my clients to become badasses because they are. For them to embark on this fitness journey and see changes and not give up is terrific because many people quit. Working out is hard and demands as much time as your job, your kids, school, or whatever you give value to in your life.
Overall, my clients see a decrease in body fat as while as an increase in their muscle mass. Their outlook on life is better, and smiling becomes more prevalent.
This style allows me to hit the muscle consistently without getting bored. Somewhere in between, I throw in a few cardio exercises or do a circuit to get their heart rate up while lifting the heavyweight. I perform this with my clients for about 40 minutes, and the first 20, I put them on the treadmill, row machine, or stair-master if available. Every moment of the session, my clients are engaged, rarely do they rest, typically only when they have reached their max and breathing becomes difficult is when I allow a break.
As time goes on, I hope to continue making my clients happy and bring them closer to their goals. I aim for a better relationship with them and trust — a better relationship that they speak to others about how exciting it is to work with me. I aim to learn more so that I can deliver more. I value everyone walking through the gym door, who chooses to train with me. There are many options, and to select me is deeply appreciated.
